Cyxtera Expands in Frankfurt, London and Amsterdam

Cyxtera Technologies announced at its annual user conference CyxteraCon, the launch of a new data center in Frankfurt and expansion of its London facility, all scheduled to be available in July this year.

Also expected, is the expansion of the company’s Amsterdam facility later this year, as announced at the conference.

“Increasing our presence in London and Frankfurt is key to meeting the growing demand we are seeing from industries including the finance, manufacturing and technology sectors. Europe is a key region for Cyxtera and our customers, so this expansion is a natural progression,” said Alex Pearson, senior vice president for international sales at Cyxtera.

The new 3MW Frankfurt data center is the company’s second facility in the city and will help global enterprises that have plans of expanding into Germany.

On the other hand, Cyxtera’s London operation consists of five facilities which sum up to 172,222 square feet of space and 30MW of utility power. The expansion is to add 323,000 square feet to the company’s Slough, Greater London data center.

The new Frankfurt data center and London expansion will then bring Cyxtera’s European footprint to 7,000,000 square feet and 34MW of power.

“Enterprises continue to turn to colocation to reduce operating costs and take advantage of the latest technology developments in infrastructure without the risk of losing control or the ability to meet security requirements,” said Randy Rowland, President of Data Centre Services at Cyxtera.

According to the company, these expansions are planned to address the growing demand for Cyxtera’s data center services in Europe’s largest data center markets.

“We were searching for a data center provider that could offer the ideal environment to support data intensive workloads such as AI & Deep Learning, GPU-accelerated Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and super-fast storage. We selected Cyxtera’s London data centers for their ability to meet both Scan’s and our customer’s strict infrastructure and security requirements and support our rapid growth,” said Elan Raja, CEO of Scan.

Scan is a GPU solution provider which is working with Cyxtera to offer an accredited NVIDIA Cloud Service solution in the UK and Europe.

“The increased demand for cloud and hybrid services is driving technology service providers to consume our data center capacity. Our expansions ensure we continue to operate one of the largest global footprints in the colocation industry and can offer new and existing customers world-class service in major data center markets worldwide,” Rowland added.
