PLANNED EDGE DATA CENTER IN BARCELONA

Edge data center developer and operator EdgeConneX, has announced the ground-breaking of its new edge data center facility in the Sant Boi de Llobregat region of Spain, located about 15km from Barcelona city center.

The carrier-neutral data center is designed to span 7,600 square meters with 2 data halls and offer up to 8MW of IT load capacity. Upon completion, the facility is expected to host customers’ applications as well as provide critical local, cloud and content access services, including hybrid and multi-cloud options.

“We are continuing our push to bring the Edge closer to those that need it most, where they need it most. It’s a client centric philosophy that runs companywide and takes us to places like Barcelona where we, alongside our technology partners and community leaders, can have an immediate and positive impact on overall business opportunity and edge market growth,” said Dick Theunissen, Managing Director, EMEA, at EdgeConneX.

Through this Barcelona data center project, EdgeConneX is extending its global footprint into Spain which will become its fifth location in Europe, joining the company’s facilities in Amsterdam, Netherlands; Dublin, Ireland; Munich, Germany and Warsaw, Poland.

“The Sant Boi region, Barcelona and all of Europe is in position to be the next great digital hub,” said Lluïsa Moret Sabidó, mayor of Sant Boi de Llobregat.

“The EdgeConneX data center facility will not only provide necessary local access and connectivity to cloud and content providers for our growing business community but will provide new jobs and opportunities, continuing to lift our local and regional economy.”

This announcement is coming about a month after India-based multi-infrastructure organization Adani Enterprises established a 50:50 joint venture with EdgeConneX to develop and operate a total of 1GW (1000MW) data center throughout India.

The EdgeConneX Barcelona multi-tenant data center is expected to be ready for service in Q4 2021 with a global IT services provider and systems integrator as its first anchor tenant.
