ITS FIFTH DATA CENTER IN THE REGION

Equinix, Inc. has today announced plans to build a new data center MA5 in the Agecroft Commerce Park in Salford, Manchester, UK, which marks the company’s fifth International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data center in Manchester.

As designed, the new Manchester site will offer colocation and interconnection services with the Phase 1 delivering 3,600 square meter of colocation space. Upon completion of all planned phases, MA5 is expected to provide 6,480 square meters of total colocation space, with 2,000 cabinets. The facility is also planned to be connected with Equinix’s MA1/MA4 Campus, MA3, as well as its London and Dublin IBX and xScale™ data center sites.

“This new investment is a significant addition to our existing portfolio in the UK. The site will cater to the growing number of enterprises-both regionally and internationally-that require ultra-low-latency connectivity to remain competitive. MA5 forms part of a wider investment in the UK’s digital infrastructure, and further cements Britain’s position as one of the most important markets globally to do business,” said Russell Poole, Managing Director, UK, Equinix.

With a planned investment of £61 million for the development of the new Manchester site, Equinix’s total investment will be brought to over £130 million in Manchester, and over £1 billion across the whole of UK. As announced, MA5 is scheduled to open in Q2 2022 and aimed at becoming Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certified.

This announcement follows the establishment of a US$575 million joint venture in the form of a limited liability partnership between Equinix and PGIM Real Estate to develop and operate data centers in Sydney, Australia.

As stated few days ago, this joint venture is set to develop and operate two xScaleTM data centers which will be known as SY9x and SY10x. Both facilities are expected to provide more than 55MW of power capacity which will serve the needs of the partners’ targeted group of hyperscale customers.
