THE EDGE MARKET EXPANSION

EQT Infrastructure has just completed its acquisition of EdgeConneX, an Edge data center developer headquartered in Herndon, Virginia, United States.

Through this acquisition, EQT Infrastructure has now expanded its data center portfolio to include EdgeConneX 40 data centers located in 33 markets across North America, Europe, and South America. As announced, this transaction will enable EdgeConneX brand to more actively pursue its expansion plans in existing and new markets.

“EQT is thrilled to partner with EdgeConneX on its journey to continue growing as a top data center industry player globally. We are already deeply impressed with EdgeConneX’s management team and look forward to future success developing the business. This partnership represents an exciting opportunity for EQT in a sector where we have significant experience, in owning and developing strong data center assets on both sides of the Atlantic and beyond,” said Jan Vesely, Partner at EQT Partners.

In August, both parties announced the definitive agreement for the acquisition of EdgeConneX, Inc. from an investor group led by Providence Equity Partners, and as expected, the deal has come to a close in the fourth quarter of 2020, which was subjected to customary closing conditions.

“The closing of this transaction marks a major milestone in EdgeConneX’s decade-long history, and I look forward to leading the Company into its exciting next chapter. EQT’s financial strength, digital infrastructure expertise and strategic focus will help propel the Company forward, as we are well positioned to address our customers’ future data center requirements and global expansions needs,” said Randy Brouckman, CEO of EdgeConneX.

Recently, EdgeConneX established a partnership with Pittsburgh Internet Exchange (PIT-IX) to enable local peering and connectivity to its Pittsburgh Edge Data Center. This network expansion is expected to support cloud and content providers, educational/research facilities, enterprises and more, in and around the city and region. The addition of PIT-IX brings the number of local Internet Exchanges available in EdgeConneX data centers around the globe to seventeen.
