ADDS A 750,000SF FACILITY TO PORTFOLIO

Vantage Data Centers has today announced its signing of a definitive agreement to acquire Next Generation Data (NGD), a UK-based data center service provider.

Located in the Cardiff Capital region of South Wales, NGD data center campus will add a total of 180MW, including an existing 72MW facility and 108MW of expansion capacity to Vantage’s portfolio once the acquisition deal is closed.

With the signing of this agreement, Vantage will be acquiring NGD from its parent firm InfraVia Capital Partners, along with the two founders of the business who placed the data center company for sale around October 2019.

“As the needs of our hyperscale, cloud and large enterprise customers continue to grow, Wales represents a highly attractive U.K. market offering both lower cost and greater scalability versus London,” said Sureel Choksi, president and CEO, Vantage Data Centers.

“NGD customers benefit from very low network latency to London, low power costs and excellent fiber connectivity, coupled with the company’s massively scalable campus outside London’s highly constrained M25 area. We are thrilled to welcome Justin Jenkins and the entire NGD team to Vantage Europe.”

The existing NGD facility is a 750,000 square foot building which sits on a 50-acre land and it’s the largest in Wales, using 100% renewable energy. Last month, NGD submitted its plan to the local council to expand the facility with the addition of four new three-story data center buildings. Although the plan is facing opposition from residents, the council is still considering the plans and views of concerned parties.

“The NGD team is excited to join Vantage Europe given our shared commitment to operational excellence, high quality facilities and sustainable building practices,” said Justin Jenkins, CEO of Next Generation Data (NGD).

“Vantage’s global footprint and broad customer relationships, combined with NGD’s growing hyperscale and enterprise U.K. customer base, position us ideally to accelerate the investment and growth of our U.K. business.”

According to the announcement, NGD’s CEO Justin Jenkins will join Vantage as president of Vantage, U.K., once the acquisition closes.

The transaction will be funded with equity commitments from Digital Colony Partners and other investors in Vantage, as well as acquisition debt financing. Although the terms of the deal were not disclosed, the transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals and is expected to close in Q3 2020.

This announcement is coming barely two month after Vantage Data Centers acquired an EMEA data center provider Etix Everywhere.
